Staple strips and cartridges
Staples are office basics that come in two types — strips or cartridges. Strips are long lines of single staples that fit inside regular office staplers or staple guns. The staple lines are easily shortened by snapping off a specific length so they fit inside mini or other size staplers. Users can add several strips inside a long-reach stapler to fill it up. There are also cartridges designed for electric staplers. They hold many staples inside, and often only fit a specific stapler. Electric stapler cartridges are easy and fast to load.
Chisel point stapler staples mean less jamming
Chisel-point staples penetrate all the way through the paper, resulting in up to 75 percent fewer curled and jammed staples. This also means that your papers avoid the multiple holes from repeated attempts to connect them. This point also makes it easier to punch all the way through thick cardstock or cardboard when creating presentations or closing up packages.
Different leg lengths fit varied document densities
The 1/4-inch leg length of standard and premium staples can penetrate 20 to 30 pages of 20-pound copy paper. Heavy-duty staples come with legs from 3/8 inch to 15/16 inch, allowing you to staple 55 to 215 sheets, depending on the stapler you use. The heavier staples also allow the use of thicker papers, including cardstock, without snagging and curling. This is helpful when assembling office manuals or hanging displays on walls or bulletin boards.
Heavy-duty staples are strong and durable
Made of steel or carbon wire, heavy-duty staples have as much as 135,000 pounds per square inch (PSI) tensile strength. The measurement identifies how much pressure the staple handles before breaking. The higher the number, the stronger the staple. Staple guns are most often used for construction or attaching thick materials to wood or walls. Many heavy-duty staple varieties resist rust, so your documents don’t discolor when stored. This strength allows them to hold up to daily wear and last without breaking. This is especially important for projects outside in the elements or those kept in storage for long lengths of time.
Benefits of staples over other options
Staples are a more permanent option over paper clips, as pages won’t slip out; staples are useful for documents that must stay together. While binder clips hold pages together, they can leave unwanted dents in the paper. Staples are also very durable for keeping paper, cardboard, plastic, or even wood together for long periods of time.
Different brands offer a variety of stapler staples
In addition to quality Quill Brand staples, other brands are also available. For example, Swingline® staples come in a variety of styles, including high-capacity options and in cartridge form for easy refilling of electric stapling machines. Swingline and JAM Paper® offer staples in bright colors, which add just the right finishing touch to reports, catalogs, and promotional materials. Bostitch® also makes several staples in various lengths for both handheld and electric options. Many Bostitch staples are heavy duty for extra strength. Rapid® makes fine staples that appear almost invisible to the eye. Other popular brands include:
- Stanley®

- Charles Leonard®
- Max®
Most brands of staples fit staplers of the same brand or alternative makes. Choose staple styles to suit the job or to mix the look.
Bulk staples save time and money
Strips of 200 or more staples for desk staplers and up to 5,000 staples in electric stapler cartridges mean that employees don’t have to stop to refill the stapler frequently, making the most efficient use of their time. Boxes of 3,750 to 30,000 staples are both convenient and budget-friendly. Electric staplers hold thousands of staples, and they work well as a communal machine for the whole office. Once a cartridge is empty, an employee can quickly change the cartridge and keep working. Non-electric staplers are a cost-effective option for everyone in the office to have one and to share the staples among the whole office. Other Quill products related to staples include:
