The ink-cartridge and printhead system of the Designjet 500
HP’s large-format system combines reservoir cartridges containing print ink with mechanical printheads that drop minute ink particles onto printer paper and other media. The system uses HP’s inkdrop color-layering technology in which multiple ink beads fall onto a single character or image spot, creating balanced color transitions, and lush coloring renderings. The black ink droplets enrich the depth of color output. Designjet 500 ink consists of pigment-based black and dye-based CMY, creating archival-quality output with dynamic color saturation. Each cartridge fits the 24-inch and 42-inch media widths of HP 500 models for producing drawings, schematics, and illustrations.
Ink cartridges support different print resolutions
The HP 11 printheads control the output of HP 10 black and 82 color ink cartridges. This feature enables users to perfect their output in different stages until their final max-dpi rendering. In addition, the HP 11 printheads and HP 10 and 82 cartridges adjust the speed of their output, from fast to best, also according to the output stage. The cartridges print text, line drawings, photos, and graphics in halftone, normal, best, and maximum resolutions.
HP 10 and HP 82 ink cartridges work with an array of media
The ink cartridges handle wide format paper, whether on single sheets or rolls, 24 or 42 inches wide. Even beyond any presentation-quality office, brochure, or photo paper, HP 10 and 82 cartridge ink works with an impressive array of media:
- Translucent bond paper
- Tracing paper
- Vellum
- Studio canvas
- Satin poster paper
- Tyvek banners
- Adhesive vinyl
Ink-cartridge yields and compatible printers
All HP printer cartridges offer different page-volume output and cross-compatibility with other printers in specific classes, including wide-format printers. When used with single-sheet paper output, the HP 10 black ink cartridge can yield up to 2,200 pages per cartridge. The HP 82 magenta ink cartridge and its cyan and yellow counterparts can yield up to 1,750 pages per cartridge. These cartridges not only fit other HP Designjet models in the 800 series but also single-sheet printer models in the HP Business inkjet 2000 series.
