(26 Products)What Is an Art Canvas?
An art canvas is a sheet of woven fabric that is usually durable and used as a painting surface or for crafts projects. Typically canvases are stretched around a wooden frame and supported using a display easel.
By default, art canvases are blank with a white background. However, some canvases come in different shades and colors and even different patterns and designs. Art canvases are a great choice for durable art projects, as they last longer than art projects done on paper or cardboard. Due to the way they are manufactured, art canvas panels are considered quite sturdy, and they tolerate a large amount of paint and are more resistant to art brush strokes, compared to painting on paper.

Quill offers canvas art boards in different sizes to accommodate different artists’ needs. Typically, art canvas panels come in the following sizes: 5 inches x 7 inches, 8 inches x 10 inches, 9 inches x 12 inches and 11 inches x 14 inches. What Types of Art Canvases Does Quil Offer?
Quill offers two types of canvases: canvas boards and stretched canvas. Each type has different features and requires specific handling and care. Keep reading to find out which type works best for you.
Canvas Boards
A canvas board is an acid-free, acrylic titanium primed canvas board, which provides an economical alternative to a traditional stretched canvas. All panels are completely turned and glued on a heavy board for ensured durability. A canvas board is more portable than a traditional stretched canvas, making them a great solution for students and artists on the move. A canvas board is suitable for oil or acrylic painting, mixed media applications and more. These canvas boards are available individually and in packs.
Stretched Canvas
This type of canvas is stretched over a wooden frame. Because these canvases are stapled on the back rather than on the edges, you can paint all four sides and hang them with or without a picture frame.
Stretched canvases tend to be more expensive than board canvases, and they are also more delicate and can be damaged easily. However, stretched canvases look great on walls and can be used as beautiful home decor when painted.
