Brother ribbon cartridges

Many typewriters have compatible components, including ribbon cartridges and lift-off correction tape. Specific typewriter models by a single manufacturer may also use more than one type of ribbon cartridge. As with model-specific Brother printer cartridges that provide different volumes of page yields, specific models of Brother electronic typewriters can also use different ribbon cartridges depending on need. For instance, Brother ML-300 and GX-8750 models may use two different correctable film ribbon cartridges, the 1030 and the 1230, both of which have black plastic ribbons that cycle through the cartridge only one time. However, the same models may also use a multi-strike, non-correctable ribbon cartridge, in which the ribbon can be wound continuously until it runs out of ink, as well as a correctable cartridge containing nylon ribbon, a utilitarian choice that provides more ribbon use but with less character crispness and sharpness. The film ribbon cartridges are also compatible with different lift-off correction tape rolls, such as Brother 3015 correction tape and other versions.

Brother has manufactured several lines of smart electronic typewriters. The available ribbon cartridges work with a daisy-wheel print head, an impact-print wheel with standard alphanumeric symbols that locks into place between the cassette and the ribbon. The spool of lift-off tape is positioned just below the cartridge in the printhead housing. Cross-compatible ribbon cartridges work with the full line of Brother electronic typewriters in its AX, GX, CE, EM, and WP series, as well as name-designated series such as Compactronic and Correctronic, among many others.
