(82 Products)Two broad types of coated gloves
Workers in an extensive range of professions use protective gloves to shield their hands from the substances they’re exposed to and the materials they handle on the job. One type of coated hand wear includes disposable multipurpose gloves, providing protection from cleaning solvents, in professions like janitorial services. Medical practitioners also use disposable exam gloves for treatment and surgical procedures. The gloves have different coating protection depending on the procedure, such as puncture resistance for injections or chemical resistance against blood and fluid discharge.
The other broad type of protective glove is coated work gloves. The coatings can protect against chemicals and fluids such as solvents, caustics, acids, and oils, in professions like lab technology and battery manufacturing. Others protect against abrasions, cuts, and punctures, for professionals like materials handlers, product inspectors, and sheet-metal workers. Gloves with thermal-resistant coatings are for professionals like food handlers and commercial fisherman.
The functionality of coated gloves
Gloves for professionals have to provide hand protection while also letting them do their jobs. Most coatings consist of resilient material, giving the gloves ample flexibility. Most coatings are also customizable, with palm and fingertip texturing to ensure a more secure grip, or shaped to the curvature of the hand, reducing fatigue during extended periods of wear. Three basic styles are available:
- Regular-fit gloves, many with knitted wrists cuffs to keep them secure on the hands.
- Gauntlet-length gloves for protection above the wrists.
- Sleeve-length gloves for protection above the elbow.
Notable qualities of the coatings
Different coated gloves offer certain characteristics. Synthetic-rubber nitrile gloves are known for their combined protection against fluids and punctures, while vinyl-coated gloves are known for their breathability, sure grip, and protection against water, oils, and grease. PVC-coated gloves remain flexible at extremely low temperatures and are solvent and abrasion-resistant. Natural rubber latex gloves are highly flexible, offer excellent grip, and are resistant to tears.
Thermal rubber-dipped protective gloves with impact resistance
Some natural-rubber gloves offer added protection with molded thermoplastic rubber (TPR) overlayments on the back of the hands and knuckles for impact protection. Many TPR gloves also have an added layer of foam rubber on the palms and fingertips to provide pinch protection, more durable wear, and a firmer grip on materials. Also excellent as cold-weather wear, impact-resistant rubber-dipped gloves are ideal for demolition work, oil and gas rigging, and heavy construction.
